Version 2 adds some great new features to the roster: it’s now a universal app for iPhone and iPad. The whole experience is slick, straightforward and a great way to access your desktop apps while on the move. You can switch between running apps easily using the app switcher button, plus return to the home screen to open other apps too. Your main screen will resize to accommodate your mobile display, and a list of apps will appear allowing you to quickly switch to an app full-screen (not all your apps are displayed, but you can edit this list easily).Ĭontrolling apps is relatively straightforward – the intro video explains everything succinctly – and intuitive. You should see your computer appear, so tap it and a connection is made.

Now turn to your mobile, install the app and sign in. A simple window reveals your account status, plus whether or not Parallels Access is available, complete with button for switching access off and on. You’ll then need to download the Parallels Access agent for your Windows PC or Mac – the download links are hidden away inside your account, but once installed you’ll find your account is already set up and ready to go. Setup is convoluted, but simple: first, sign up for an account at – signup is free, and pricing plans start from $19.99 for a year’s unlimited access to up to 5 computers. Rather than give the user access to their entire desktop, it’s designed to let you run any program or app full-screen on your device.

The company is also launching new pricing and management options for businesses, with multi-user Parallels Access accounts for companies providing access to up to five computers for $49.99/year, after a free trial period that runs through July 31.Controlling your PC or Mac remotely is nothing new, and the ability to control your computer using a phone or tablet is hardly ground-breaking, either, but Parallels Access comes with a clever twist. Parallels’ updated iOS app now includes a new touch-friendly file browser, the ability for remote applications to use the iPad and iPhone microphone, and a new feature designed to more reliably wake up a computer that’s being accessed remotely.

Like the iPad version of Parallels Access, the new app for Android has user interface elements designed to feel native to the platform. Microsoft charges $69.99/year and $99.99/year for Office 365 subscriptions, depending on the number of device licenses.
However, Parallels Access offers the ability to run not only Office but a much wider variety of apps on more devices, at a lower price. In particular, Microsoft’s launch of Office for iPad, bringing the Redmond company’s widely used productivity apps to the Apple tablet, might satisfy the needs of some users who would otherwise opt for Parallels Access. The release of Parallels Access 2.0 comes as the competitive landscape gets more complicated for the app. The subscription allows users to access up to five computers remotely from unlimited Android and iOS devices. The company is also expanding its existing Parallels Access iOS app to include the iPhone, and reducing the required annual subscription to $19.99/year, down from $49.99/year previously and $79.99/year when the app launched on iPad less than a year ago. Parallels is releasing its Parallels Access remote desktop app for Android, making it possible to run Windows and Mac applications on Android-based tablets and phones, using an online connection to access apps and files on a computer at home or work.
